Reminder - Flu Shots

Reminder: The flu season in the northern hemisphere typically runs from mid-October through April. Influenza can be a serious and even life-threatening disease for those 65 and older. The best protection against the flu for those over 65 is vaccination with the high-dose Fluzone quadrivalent vaccine.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent vaccine should not be given to anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine (including eggs or egg products). In addition, Fluzone Quadrivalent and Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent should not be given to anyone who has had a severe allergic reaction after a previous dose of any influenza vaccine.

People with compromised immune systems may not receive complete immunity from the vaccine (though vaccination may result in a milder case of the flu).

Consult your personal physician if you have any concerns or questions regarding the flu vaccine.

The cost of the flu shot generally is covered for those enrolled in Medicare Part B or Medicare Advantage plans. Check with your pharmacy or health care provider to be sure.
